Shelby Cinca from Frodus did a remix of Black Bubblegum as Triobelisk (a while back, I believe). You can grab the MP3 here. There’s a strong possibility that this, along with The Cassette’s cover of 43% Burnt will end up on the forthcoming remix EP.

For more info on the remix, go to Discobelle.

Greg Puciato has remixed a track by Prong, which is being featured in an upcoming remix compilation of their’s called Power of The Damn MiXXXer. Here are the full details from their MySpace page:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 10, 2009 (LOS ANGELES) – 13th Planet Records readies Power of The Damn MiXXXer remix compilation in follow-up to the 2007 Prong release Power of The Damager. The release date is slated for May 12, 2009. Prong will support the release with European festival and club tour dates through the summer, beginning May through June 2009.

Additionally, week of street date, Prong is set to perform at Tucson’s Suicidal Metalfest May 9th, the festival to be hosted by 13th Planet Records chief henchman, Ministry’s Al Jourgensen. The following evening, May 10th, Prong headlines a local Tucson club show before packing up and heading to Europe for a 25-city tour.

From the beginning Prong’s front man Tommy Victor has penned traditional rock song-structures merged with simple steel bar riffs, atonalism, art-rock atmospheres, all culminating in a crushing sound – songs curiously pleasing to the ears while they liquefy the listener’s brain.

Every time Prong has been ignored by the mainstream whilst being revered by the underground, or worse still ripped off by lesser, spineless musicians without a creative pot of their own to piss in, Victor would allow a little more grudge, a little more sludge, a little more mudge and a fair few vials of distilled, frustrated, blood-and-bile infused anger to seep into the mix.

Dissonant, dark, dirty and at times rather deranged, Tommy Victor always did swing his D’s low, hard and squarely at your skull. Power of The Damager is an angry record. It’s a real record.

Its remixed counterpart Power of The Damn MiXXXer equally conjures the same dissonant, dark, dirty, and deranged emotions and brings them to a boil. This isn’t some half-baked feel good remix record aimed at dance floor DJ’s. It’s always better to get the scoop straight from the man himself and Tommy V. offers up the following, “We are really excited about this remix compilation of ‘Power of The Damager’ material. We feel the LP was overlooked and in some cases ignored. But the added elements provided by the great remixers, producers, and deejays infused with all the tracks make Power of The Damn MiXXXer’ an interesting yet enjoyable listening experience.”

‘Power of The Damn MiXXXer’ Track Listing:

1. Worst of It (Worst of The Worst Mix) – Remixed by Jon Clayden of Pitchshifter
2. Can’t Stop The Bleeding (SMack! Mix) – Remixed by Xris FLAM
3. The Banishment (Wolfzilla & The Angry Moon Mix) – Remixed by Rob Caggiano of Anthrax

7. Message Inside of Me (Chicxulub Impactor Mix) – Remixed by Seismologist
8. No Justice (Crackmix) – Remixed by DJ? Acucrack
9. Looking For Them (Contagious Mix) – Remixed by Virus of Dope
10. Spirit Guide (Reality’s Edge Mix) – Remixed by John Bechdel of False Icons
11. Changing Ending Troubling Times (Abandoned Structures Mix) – Remixed by Ampedelic
12. The Banishment (Bitter Harvest Mix) – Remixed by Clayton Worbeck of Revolting Cocks
13. Bad Fall (Smile on Your Face Mix) – Remixed by Greg Puciato of Dillinger Escape Plan

Selected remixer comments:
“I was psyched that I had the opportunity to do a remix for Prong. It was pretty intense, and an honor, to have worked on this pioneering band’s music, especially knowing the influence it has had on Dope, and many others.” –Virus, Dope

“Prong has always been one of those bands that no matter what album or song you hear, you always know it’s them. They have their own identity because of it. There’s integrity and respect for a band like that in a music world that tends to be filled with fakes.” -Brian Harrah, Professional Murder Music

Ben Weinman Remixes Thrice

Written by Adrian Clement. Filed under Ben Weinman, Remix. No comments.

This is a bit late, but I thought it was worth mentioning, anyway: Ben Weinman has remixed the song “Digital Sea” by Thrice, which appears on the single “Come All You Weary”, released on the 4th of March. Riley Breckenridge, the drummer for Thrice, has stated on Absolute Punk that:

“As far as the remix goes, we’ve all been fans of Dillinger Escape Plan for years, and I’ve kept in touch with Ben Weinman since we did a show with them in London in 2004. Once I found out he was working on remixes, I really wanted to see what he could do with some of our stuff, so when the band discussed the idea of doing a remix, he was the first person I hit up. Luckily, he agreed to give it a shot, and I’m glad he did. I’m really happy with how it came out, and honored to have had a musician I have great respect for, create his take on one of our songs.”

I haven’t heard this myself, but I’ll try to get around to doing so in the next couple of days.
