Spreading Like Wings Turns 1!

Written by Adrian Clement. Filed under Birthday. 1 Comment.

Today marks exactly one year since Spreading Like Wings first took off in 2008. I guess I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal readers for sticking with us and for your support over the past 12 months. To date we’ve made 216 posts (that’s just over 4 posts per week) and we’ve had 270 comments. Since first starting this our Feedburner subscriptions has raised from 19 to (at the time of writing this) 90 (although that number jumps up and down, usually it’s around 60).

Initially, I started this site with Blogger and stayed there content until I ran into a lot of unresolved problems, leading me to jump ship and go with Wordpress, who I’ve been with since the beginning of the year. I still need to work out a lot of Wordpress’ features and try to work on a new layout.

Basically, I started this site because I wanted there to be something as comprehensive, cool and up-to-date as The NIN Hotline for The Dillinger Escape Plan. I hope that I’ve accomplished that and continue to do so.

Thanks for giving me a few pointers initially, Leviathant. If you’re reading this I’m still yet to figure out Magpie, but I’ve got around my original problem. Also, I know you were never obliged to do it but you said you might link to SLW if it was still kicking a few months after I started it off. Oh well, I guess you must’ve forgotten. Good work with The NIN Hotline, by the way, it’s looking better than ever.

There have been some other cool people that I’ve beenĀ  in contact with relating SLW. One of those is Josh who runs Stubbadub. If you want to be kept updated about Ipecac and Web of Mimicry related bands and projects then that’s the site to check out. Keep up the good work dude!

What else can I say? I set up a Flickr account sometime last year collating photos, but now I’m also uploading them here as well. Thank you to everyone who has ever sent in photos. Even though I might not have posted them all, I’ve got them all archived on my computer. They’ll be up here eventually. I also set up a YouTube account, which isn’t updated as regularly as I’d like it to be, but it has at least a couple of videos I’ve ripped from sites that aren’t available elsewhere (until they realize, of course and they get taken down, like what happened with the UVTV footage – no hard feelings though, Richie).

Over the course of the year I’ve seen The Dillinger Escape Plan’s popularity soar, which has culminated recently in their performance with Nine Inch Nails for “Wish” at Soundwave Festival in Adelaide and Perth, Australia. Good work guys, keep up the awesome work.

Some of the special features in the past included an interview with Ben on Dillinger, Greg on Spylacopa and J.R. Hayes from Pig Destroyer on their 2007 tour they shared with Dillinger (amongst others). Some of the most popular topics/highlights we’ve covered in the past year include:

  • “Black Bubblegum” video gets released (link)
  • Dillinger starts releasing limited-edition shirts and runs into a few problems (link)
  • Dillinger’s 2008 European tour, including datres with Between the Buried and Me and Meshuggah (link)

  • Steve Mercado gets his Milk Lizard design exhibited at an art gallery (link)
  • Puscifer performs some live shows with (amongst others) Gil Sharone (link)
  • Spylacopa’s Debut EP gets a lot of good reviews including getting listed as one of Alarm Press’ best albums of the week (link)
  • Ben performs a solo experimental improvised set at John Zorn’s NYC venue The Stone (link)
  • Ben releases his clothing line for dogs affectionately titeld Garmutt (can’t find the original link, but here’s a direct link to Garmutt)
  • Ben remixes a Lil Wayne track (link)
  • Metallica gives respect to Dillinger (link)
  • Dillinger and Nine Inch Nails perform together for Soundwave Festival (link)

And those are a just a few of them. Whew. Can’t believe all of that happened in 12 months.

Anyway, in closing, thanks to everyone who’s ever written in with news, said hello, had some feedback or sent in photos of your tits (actually, that never happened, unfortuantely). Thanks especially to Tom and Chad for posting every now and then for the past 4 or 5 months, to Steve Mercado, Carrie Knific, Asian Steve and everyone from Dillinger and all the fans who have made this site worthwhile to maintain.

Looking forward to keeping you updated on what will hopefully be an exciting year ahead for Dillinger.
