Metal Hammer Review of Spylacopa EP

From MySpace:

SPYLACOPA
SPYLACOPA EP
RISING PULSE

FEATURING members of Dillinger, Isis, Candiria and Made Out Of Babies, this 'supergroup' offering would have been a tantalising prospect even if it were no more than the sum of its parts. Yet its head-spinning permutations of post-hardcore ferocity and soar-off-the-leash melodies bewitches with kaleidoscopic brilliance. [8]

Terrorizer Magazine Review of Spylacopa Interview

Taken from Spylacopa's MySpace page at this location:

From its beginnings as a humble side project for Candiria guitarist John Lamacchia, Spylacopa has accrued exceptional musicians in a snowball of mounting musical bliss, leading us to this stunning debut EP. With Lamacchia's guitar playing and studio trickery supported by Isis' Jeff Caxide on bass, the stage is set for Dillinger's Greg Puciato and Made Out Of Babies' Julie Christmas to turn these warm, atmospheric songs into nightmarishly catchy, pop metal hit singles. With opening pair 'Haunting A Ghost' and 'Bloodletting', the balance between grin-inducing immediacy and dissonant menace is struck to absolute perfection. After the piano led instrumental of 'Together We Become Forever', 'Staring At The Sound' is redolent of latter day Candiria, anthemic vocals over a driving juggernaut of shifting time signatures. 'I Should Have Known You Would' closes proceedings with a woozy, Radiohead referencing lullaby, Puciato crooning "I should have killed you" as the agonising wait for a potential full-length looms on the horizon.

Another Spylacopa Review

4/5

Spylacopa is a band that consists of members of such underground heavy hitters like; Candiria, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Made Out Of Babies and ISIS what you get when these musicians join forces is a new animal. Spylacopa sounds like a progressive emo band. That’s right I said it a progressive emo band. If you can imagine a more emotional melodic Page Hamilton backed by a progressive modern rock band then you’d get a pretty good idea. Spylacopa like you might expect have fantastic chops but they don’t show off they pull off a great contemporary sounding album. The first two tracks “Haunting A Ghost” and “Bloodletting” are fantastic if we get more explosive stuff like these two tracks then lord help us all. I want to hear a complete album right now.

Absolute Zero Media Magazine Review Spyalcopa EP

With members of Dillinger Escape Plan, Isis, Made Out of Babies and Candiria in this project, who the Hell knew what this would sound like but to be honest I'm totally shocked and in awe. The first two track are a mix of all those bands in a very avant/post hardcore/rock manner and amazing in their own right. The third track is a soundscape/ambient/spacial soundtrack piece with piano and synth elements. Having Greg Puciato and Julie Christmas both on vocals makes this all the more special, as they are two of the best vocalists out there in the musical landscape today. There is a more melody driving sound here then most of their other projects. The aggression is there. but there a more user friendly side to Spylacopa. I still would never call this pop music, but I can see this project getting radio airplay and video support by the mainstream as you can get those Hot Topic kids to listen to this and make them think there still cool [laughs] There is a later period Faith No More vibe to this and it works very well. Spylacopa need to make a full length ASAP. This is brilliance in the making; do not miss out on this.
