Dead as History Shirt (And Other Updates)

Looks like I got my computer back from repair at just the right time. Here's a picture of Dillinger Escape Plan's latest limited shirt, this time for the track "Dead as History" off Ire Works, and some other updates:

DEAD AS HISTORY shirt...Australia Soundwave dates...DVD info....new songs
Current mood: FACE
Category: FACE Music

Alright....so we've shipped out all the domestic 82588 shirts and the overseas will be shipped within the week. Here's a new limited design for you all to feast upon like lions to a carcass. It's for the song "Dead As History", and only 200 are being made. Around 800 "82588" shirts went in a 24 hour period, so don't sleep on this Dead As History shirt or IT will be history and you'll just be sad and depressed...and miserable....and probably eventually kill yourself honestly. Check it out here then go to the main page to pick it up.

The evil genius who works with us to design all these limited shirts, Shadowmonster, recently won an award or something from the Corcoran Gallery of Art in DC for his design for the Milk Lizard shirt. Check him out here, rocking the 82588 design, next to his Milk Lizard design, in an art gallery!

The best part about that picture...is THE FACE. Ben and I have a theory about THE FACE that I'll share with you real quick(sometimes it's just called FACE, when used as a verb or adjective). Basically, FACE is when you hear a riff, or a part of a song, that is just so nasty and righteous that it makes you make THE FACE. THE FACE is always kinda like you just ate something disgusting but are somehow satisfied with it at the same, like it's somehow gross and tasty all at once. Kinda like the face Bill Cosby always makes when he's dancing or when he eats a kingly piece of pie or one of those big sandwiches he always only gets to take a bite of before Claire yells at him(why did she yell at him for eating sandwiches?! is that what happens when you get married? sandwich eating becomes a crime?!). It's the face I imagine one would make if they got told they won the lottery while constipated. Something like that. So that's a secret of The Dillinger Escape Plan. We don't do anything, ANYTHING...unless it causes us to make THE FACE. If we're sitting around listening to demos or if Ben is playing guitar and we start nodding our head and making THE FACE when a certain part hits....its a keeper for sure. Obviously all of this dude's designs are FACE as a motherfuck, so it's only natural that he's in front of them and obviously can't keep himself from facing the fuck out. Face on, brother.

In other news...we're playing the Soundwave festival in Australia in early 2009. It's gonna be us, Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Lamb Of God, Underoath, PTW, ETID, and a bunch of other goodness. If you don't live in Australia THAT FUCKING SUCKS cause this is gonna be ridiculous. Check out the main page for dates or head over here to check it out.

We're wrapping up a DVD, a documentary on early years Dillinger, from the beginning, all the way through the end of the Calculating Infinity cycle, which is gonna be really cool for the ten of you out there who weren't in elementary school when this band started. For everyone else, it'll be a history lesson well worth watching, to see how this beast got started.

We're writing new songs. They will be here soon. When I say soon, I mean DEP time, but soon nevertheless even factoring in DEP time....and I promise you, these songs are gonna make each and every one of you make THE FACE.

PS: If anyone hasn't gotten a shirt they ordered or is just wondering when the fuck to expect it, and they wanna talk to someone the way people who are depressed and wanna die have to call a hotline or whatever(someone out there reading this just got real sensitiiiiive and sad...."HEY! suicide's not funnny!!! don't joke like that!!!! last year one of my best friends blah blah blah". RELAX. Don't have a HEART ATTACK MC Serious) just email dillingermerch@yahoo.com and the guy who checks it will get you sorted out or make you feel better inside. Chances are it just didn't mail yet or your paypal address was wrong.
You can pick up the shirt from MySpace.

Win Ben Weinman's Guitar!

From MySpace:
You guys are doing a great job! I'm going through stickers and posters like crazy down here and the people behind me in line at the post office hate me too.

Have you been a good teamer? Have you been plastering those posters all over the place and assaulting strangers? Here's your chance to prove your worth!

One lucky, totally awesome, totally devoted street teamer will win a guitar smashed by the hands of our very own Ben Weinman

Here's the deal:
- Give me your address, I'll send you some posters and stickers. USE THEM.
- Send us the evidence. Take pictures, record some video.. do whatever it takes to show us what you've done. You can send via myspace message to THIS MYSPACE [not the band's] or you can email it at depstreetteam@gmail.com

We're looking for dedicated, creative work. None of that 'quietly hand out stickers in a large crowd' type thing. You've heard "Panasonic Youth." Now do THAT...WITH STICKERS AND POSTERS!

I know for a fact that one of the Boston kids has totally destroyed the area with DEP, borderline vandalism. DO IT.

You have until DECEMBER 21 to submit.

Sincerely,

Your loving street team overlord,

Carrie.

Greg Puciatos thoughts on "Haunting A Ghost"

From MySpace:
"Haunting A Ghost": John and I had written a bunch of songs together, and every new song was getting increasingly better, and this is the song that I realized we were hitting a stride with. Everything vocal in this song: phrasing...melody...lyrics...all came very quickly and natural to me and that's usually when you know it's good. Sometimes when I hear music I feel like I can hear the melody in the music, like when its loud, you begin to hear the melody creating itself, singing itself, especially with distorted guitars, in the overtones and undertones of the music. Then I feel like I just decipher it and pull it out and there it is. That's how the chorus of this song was. I listened to it, and the vocal melody was just nested in there, sitting right there. The chord progression is really great, and the bassline underneath from Jeff really gives it a feel that I love, like a boat going up and down in the sea or something. Lyrically the song just talks about waking up and realizing that all of a sudden you are in this new phase of your life, and its a little confusing and maybe you aren't sure what to make of it or what to do with it, but rather than be nostalgic for the past and trying to hang on to memories, you embrace your situation and would never ever go back. In my case it applied to a personal relationship ending/beginning that instantly signified a changing of eras for me as a person.
"Haunting A Ghost" is now streaming from Spylacopa's MySpace page. Check it out.

Huge New MySpace Post, or: How Greg Puciato Ate Rice Krispies For Breakfast Today

From MySpace:

The End Of The Road....
Category: Music

....is a pretty good song by Boys 2 Men. One of those songs that when it comes on, by the end everyone is singing along. It's also a very weird feeling that comes along at the end of an album touring cycle, when you've been on the road for almost a year straight, and you reach the end of it for a while. It's like driving a car at 150mph the whole time then coming to a stop. When you are travelling the world with the same nine people in various forms of transportation, all for a single cause, you don't stop to realize how great it all is until you're done for a while, and how much that whole lifestyle and all of those people have become a part of yourself. We turned ourselves into machines, that play through injuries and violently exorcise rock and roll demons on a nightly basis. What a strange feeling it is to know that we don't have any shows booked at all and that we'll be home for a bit. Like a soldier with no more war to fight. Kinda like Rambo at the end of First Blood. So if you see any of us backpacking through your town mumbling about what time the show starts or yelling at random people to "start the intro", just look the other way. I guess what's weird about it, is that for us the road had become home. We left to record Ire Works in June of 2007, and never really stopped after that. Now we're looking at the first substantial block of time off the road, and it's time to shift gears a bit. Which brings us to our first order of business:

-Some of you may have seen October tour dates posted for a tour we were to take part in. Due to circumstances beyond our control(no we're not breaking up so don't believe anything that might start floating around on the internet) we will not be taking part in that tour. We wish every other band on the tour well, and hope that it is a great success for them and for the people behind the scenes working hard to make it a great tour.

We have a lot of exciting things happening. The best of which is writing for the next album, which we'll record sometime next year. We have a good amount of ideas in the initial testing stages, and we're about to really dive in. We also have a DVD of early years Dillinger in the works for all you old heads or people interested in a history lesson, and we're still gonna be cranking out these limited Ire Works shirts 'til we reach the end of the song list. Party Smasher and 82588 are coming up, wait 'til you see how ridiculous they are. I know that you'll all be stoked on them. I may have to break my rule of not wearing my own band's shirts. Hopefully Lars won't sue us over the 82588 design....(hint hint)

We had a lot of great shows on the US run, we were totally shocked at the amount of people who showed up to see us at the Cavalera shows. Thank you all so much. We had a lot of fun and it was great to see you all. Chain Reaction? Los Angeles House Of Blues? Two shows that will definitely not be forgotten.

Remember when we posted Jeff's number online and you all called saying "Bitch I'm The Boss"....well if you still have Jeff Tuttle's phone number, you may now wanna call him up and say "Bitch, You Are Definitely No Longer The Boss", because he just got engaged. Domestication better not sap your ability to unleash the fury, boy. Please stay the boss Jeff. Wear them pants son! Wear 'em!

You should all probably go see Tropic Thunder. Absolutely ridiculous. Not since Soul Man has anyone turned in a performance like Robert Downey Jr did in that movie. Utterly absurd. I've never been in a theater where there were so many people uncomfortably trying to not laugh at some of the un-PC parts in that movie. Lighten up folks, it's called comedy.

Ben played a crazy avant garde set last night at John Zorn's club the Stone two night's ago with Trevor Dunn. It was filmed, we'll get some stuff up soon. He's got a lot of other cool stuff going on too like programming work with Ephel Duath and who knows what else he's into. Head over to his page at www.myspace.com/benjaminweinman every now and then and maybe he'll fill you in on those things before I do.

Spylacopa, the project with me and John LaMacchia of Candiria fame, that has been slowly materializing in the background for years now, is finally seeing the light of day. Our first EP, with guest appearances from Julie Christmas of Made Out Of Babies/Battle Of Mice fame and Jeff Caxide from Isis, is gonna come out on November 4th. More info on the release and the project as a whole will be forthcoming, keep up to date on that over at www.myspace.com/spylacopa .

Don't worry, we'll definitely still play some shows while we're writing the new album. We'll get another US run in at some point as well as another UK run and some off the beaten path places like Mexico and South America. We'll let you know. Stay tuned to this site for whatever may come...

OR you can always go to our unofficial news page, www.spreadinglikewings.com and the kid who runs that will probably know about anything pertaining to our lives before any of us do. I don't bother making decisions in my life at all anymore, I just check that site and find out what happens. I go there, and it'll say something like "Greg Puciato ate rice krispies for breakfast today", and it'll somehow be before I actually even ate breakfast, but the fact is that I actually was thinking of eating rice krispies. Then I do, thus fulfilling the prophecy. It's a little weird. There's probably news up about this blog even though I haven't posted it yet.

Here's some new FOOTAGE from tour. Check it out if you're into Brent from Mastodon and homosexual zombies(very closely related). We love you all...Asian Steve doesn't though. He hates everyone. Go here and tell him to have a coke and a smile every now and then.

-The Dillinger Escape Plan
In summary:
  • The Dillinger Escape Plan will NOT be playing with Suicide Silence in October due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • A new DVD of the early days of The Dillinger Escape Plan is in the works.
  • Limited edition shirts themed on songs from Ire Works will still continue to be produced. "Party Smasher" and "82588" are the next two shirts to be coming out.
  • Spyaloca will be releasing an EP on the 4th of November.
  • And last but not least, Jeff Tuttle has been engaged. Congratulations dude.

Ephel Duath News and Other Bits and Pieces

Since news has been a bit slow lately, I've decided to post about a whole bunch of things that at least having a passing relation to The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Firstly, as you may remember, Ben Weinman is appearing on an upcoming full-length release by the great Italian avant-garde/experimental metal group Ephel Duath, which will be released on Earache Records. The following news on the status of the record was posted by Ephel Duath as a MySpace Bulletin just the other day:
Hey all,

We hope the summer's treating you well!

We're doing pretty good, we've just recorded the new album. It's going to be mastered wednesday and we obviously cant wait. We're really impatient to see how you guys will respond to it, but we're also psyched because we really have the feeling to have accomplished something good.

It's still quite hard to describe, but Through My Dog's Eyes should be out october 6!

Should be a great time so come out and hang with me.

In other news I am working on a bunch of remixes which im pretty excited about. I'll fill you guys in more on them very soon. In the meantime come out and see Dillinger on tour now with Cavalera Conspiracy until Aug 6. We added a few special Dillinger dates including one in Anaheim since Disney won't let us play the House of Blues show on this tour. Things like that tend to happen to us a lot. Anaheim, Wisconsin, Calgary Info + Baltimore Love

From MySpace:
Good news for Madison, Wisconsin.....bad news for Calgary. We will not be playing Monsters Of Rock on the 26th of this month, travel difficulties, blah blah blah. We WILL however now be playing a show at the Loft in Madison, Wisconsin on that day, so we'll see all our friends there!

Anaheim at the Chain Reaction on the 6th of August is almost sold out. Don't be a fool. Go here to get tickets:

GET TICKETS HERE

We just finished playing Baltimore a few hours ago and it was, as usual, OFF THE CHAIN! You guys in the DC/Baltimore area always make me proud! Best show of the tour thus far. No surprise there.

See you all soon.

Chain Reaction Anaheim Ticket Info

From MySpace:

Ok....so we are getting an avalanche of people wondering how to get tickets to the Chain Reaction show in Anaheim on August 6th before it sells out.

So here is the link. Click it, buy tickets...show up....unleash fury with us. It's really that simple. PLEASE DON'T WAIT TIL DAY OF AND THEN HARASS US OUTSIDE ABOUT WHY YOU CAN'T GET IN. It makes me feel like shit and sucks.

BUY TICKETS, DON'T BE THAT GUY OUTSIDE

In other news, we've been slacking on the video front, we'll get a new one up soon, we have a lot of footage, give us a few days. Warped tour was killer, we had a lot of friends on that tour, and they fed us great food, and we didn't get kicked off this year! Which is pretty much all we can ask of a tour at this point in our lives. We learned that Florida in July is a perfect place....if you enjoy slowly evaporating/melting because of the heat/humidity. Old people move there to relax? Really? I bet somebody from Florida invented air conditioning. Out of necessity. I wanna shake his hand. People there are probably pretty ready to die by the time the reaper comes, just so they can get the fuck underground and out of the heat. Great shows though! North Carolina and Virginia Beach....you guys killed it too!

We start the tour with the reunited Sepultura brothers tomorrow in Liam's hometown of Philadelphia at the TLA. Check our main page for dates. Jeff Tuttle will more than likely be in the crowd moshing every night when they play "Territory". Jeff is incapable of sitting still while metal is playing. He lays in his bunk all day sleeping and watching movies, and I swear to god if you turn on anything involving distorted guitars or double bass or growling or yelling or the devil or whatever the hell its all about he will instinctively start headbanging and mosh his way out of bed. We'll stand on the side of the stage WATCHING a killer band like At The Gates, and I'll look at Jeff, and he'll be headbanging like he's on stage. Or I'll look out in the crowd and think whoa who's that guy owning the pit, oh that's Jeff. Hahaha. I love him.

We have a string of hometown-esque shows coming up. If you live there you better represent. Ahem. BALTIMORE. NEW YORK. PHILADELPHIA. Don't be strangers.

New MySpace Bulletin *Updated*

From Dillinger Escape Plan's MySpace page:
Ok, in a repeat of what happened earlier in the year in Florida when we were out with Killswitch Engage, we have learned that we will NOT be aloud to play the Disneyland House Of Blues in Anaheim. We are apparently banned from any Disney show for whatever reason. We are working on an alternative right now, like multiple shows in a row at Chain Reaction for a cheap ticket price, which will be killer anyway since we haven't played venues that small in Southern California in a really long time. This is unfortunate because we love playing that House Of Blues and were looking forward to it, but we love and miss our SoCal fans more and its been a long time since we've been there, so we'll figure it all out and have the updated show info ASAP. Stay tuned.
*Update*

The Dillinger Escape Plan will be performing at Chain Reaction on the 6th of August instead. Go to allages.com to book tickets as they are likely to sell out.

New MySpace Post, Headbanger's Blog Update

So according to a recent post by Headbanger's Blog, fans voted for Dillinger Escape Plan "in droves, but not in time". This strikes me as being total bullshit because only now they're saying that there was a deadline (2:00PM, apparently). There is, however, another chance for them to win so go and vote in the comments section here. You can vote as many times as you want, so throw in an extra vote for Boris' "Statement" while you're at it, which is a video from their latest release Smile.

Also, check out Dillinger's latest blog post here (if you haven't already).

So far Black Dahlia Murder's "Everything Went Back" is winning with about 70 votes, namely because of a post to their MySpace blog the other day.

DEP On Tinitus P3 Again *Updated*

The Dillinger Escape Plan will be on the air tonight on Norway's Tinitus P3 at 8:00PM, (Norwegian time), according to the radio station's latest post on MySpace. As with the last interview that was done on P3, I'm sure it will be up on the internet soon after tonight. The following is the full description from their MySpace post:
It's a bit of a feral feast tonight as we revist some of the most unconventional interviews, dish out some of the coolest music and have a blast in the studio.

From The Dillinger Escape Plan discussing nudity and homosexuality, Dream Theater waxing lyrical about their achievements, Zakk Wylde confessing to his dominant bedroom antics, Paradise Lost admitting that their prozac doses might not be as high as they claim in the media or Anal Cunt calling us a bunch of fat ugly cunts that look like bagel-eating Jews, we've got it all in tonight's show.

Join us - TINITUS - tonight from 20:00 on P3! And note our ratings have gone up to 66 000 metal munching masochists coming back for more every week!

The Dillinger Escape Plan are going to be on the air again with Tinitus as part of a special program featuring interviews with bands/members of bands who played at Download. More info here.

New MySpace Posts by DEP and Greg

The Dillinger Escape Plan and Greg Puciato have updated their MySpace account with new posts which you can check out here and here respectively.

Nothing new really except for an update on the t-shirts (they're on their way) and for this update on Spylacopa on Greg's blog:
SPYLACOPA : We're putting the finishing touches on our first official EP, doing some last minute mixing adjustments before we master. John and I have been working the ears off of Mike Barile of Sweetfire Studios in Brooklyn, having him endlessly tweak mixes every day, but we're just about done. Looks to be a very limited release, we're probably gonna do some cool packaging options in really limited numbers, then make a more general digital release afterwards. Keep an eye out for more info on the Spylacopa page. I'm really happy with how this is turning out, John is a fantastic guitar player and musical mind who I'm very fortunate to be able to collaborate with, and we are just barely starting to scratch the surface of possibility for this very exciting and open ended project.
